BPI BAYANihan

BPI BAYANihan is a disaster response program that supports communities affected by disasters through the following components:

• Relief: Responding to the immediate needs of the communities by providing food, water, shelter, health care, and sanitation, among others
• Recover: Equipping affected communities with the tools needed to recover and resume normalcy after the calamity

Since the Taal Volcano eruption last January 12, 2020, BPI turned over an initial Php 2.7 million to the Philippine Disaster Resilience Foundation (PDRF). BPI employees led the initial fundraising drive wherein the amount raised was matched by BPI Foundation. 

The second wave of fundraising was opened to the general public through the BPI branches from February 14 to March 13, 2020.  The initiative, dubbed #TaaLove: Sa Puso Magmumula ang Kanilang Pagbangon, aims to raise funds for the development of a multi-purpose infrastructure that will serve as shelter, livelihood center, and venue for disaster preparedness and recovery activities for those greatly affected by the eruption of Taal Volcano.

BPI, through BPI Foundation, has also partnered with Ayala Corporation and Globe Telecom to donate Php 5 million to the Philippine Red Cross for public health protection in light of the recent Taal Volcano eruption and the COVID-19 situation.

Through the BAYANihan program, BPI has helped and continues to help those who are susceptible to the COVID-19 pandemic.

One of its first initiatives is dedicated to help address the critical needs of public health protection in the country. There are two phases: protection of medical workers and provision of facilities for COVID-19 patients.

A total of 200,000 face masks were distributed to frontliners in hospitals in Metro Manila, government agencies, local government units, and to migrant Filipino workers bound for Hong Kong and Macau. This was done through the initial Php 5 million group donation to Philippine Red Cross (PRC) from the joint efforts of BPI, Ayala Corporation, and Globe Telecom last March.

As surveillance of the virus becomes more critical, an additional donation of Php 2 million was recently handed over to PRC to build the second COVID-19 testing facility with Ayala Land Inc. (ALI) at the PRC Mandaluyong Headquarters. BPI Foundation has also supported the Manila HealthTek, Inc. by increasing its COVID-19 testing capacity for Filipinos. Through this initiative, an additional 1,000 test kits were produced to check more suspect, probable, and confirmed patients in the country.

BPI Foundation supplied 1,000 cloth masks to the doctors and medical staff of the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM), and at the same time provided livelihood to a poor community in Payatas.

Tapping one of its Sinag alumni, Habi Lifestyle—a social enterprise who gives individuals an opportunity to make responsible, conscious, and positive choices through its 100% Filipino-made, environment-friendly, and sustainable accessories—around 30 seamstresses in Payatas were given the opportunity to continue working amid the enhanced community quarantine.

BPI Foundation also reached out to its program partner RiceUp, an agri-tech social enterprise that empowers farmers through innovation, entrepreneurship, cooperative farming, and education, to assist farmers in Pampanga by linking them to markets and providing relief packs for their families.

More than 2,000 kilos of fresh produce have been recently sold through online orders from residents in Pampanga as well as bulk purchases from institutional and local government unit buyers. Over 300 rice farmers and their families also received relief packs in six barangays in Pampanga.

BPI Foundation also partnered with Caritas Manila’s Project Damayan. Through its Php 4 million donation, thousands of food bags and sanitation kits were distributed to over 1,400 families or around 7,000 individuals in Metro Manila’s urban poor area.
